Notre Dame football: 3 offensive players who need to be great in 2022

Blake Fisher, Offensive Tackle

During the team’s victory over Florida State in the season opener, true freshman Blake Fisher was injured and would be missed for the rest of the regular season. Before that, Fisher had done the nearly impossible, stepping on campus in South Bend and being named the starting left tackle as a true freshman, replacing a star in Liam Eichenberg.

With Fisher out of the lineup, the Irish struggled in a big way for weeks, before fellow true freshman, and former high school tight end Joe Alt took over. Even when Fisher returned for the Fiesta Bowl, Alt remained as the team’s left tackle, a move that could change this upcoming season if Marcus Freeman decides to move Alt to the right and give Fisher his job back.

Either way, Fisher needs to be great next season, as Alt has already proven he can deal with the workload of being a starting left tackle at the FBS level. No matter what side he is on, Fisher is key for this offense in 2022 and beyond, and this combination of true sophomores could be the best in the country when all is said and done.
