Notre Dame football: Marcus Freeman put together an elite staff
By Sean Smith
The Notre Dame football team did a nice job filling out their staff this offseason, and here is a quick look at those who will join Marcus Freeman in 2022.
Notre Dame football and Marcus Freeman have announced that some of their assistant coaching vacancies are now officially filled, bringing in Harry Hiestand (O-Line Coach), Al Washington (D-Line Coach), Chansi Stuckey (WR Coach), and Brian Mason (ST Coach). It was critical to officially announce these hires as the 2023 Recruiting season is officially on its way.
Having these coaches officially part of the staff early in the process gives them time to develop relationships with elite prospects the Irish were already recruiting heavily.
Below I will discuss each hire in detail.
Notre Dame football: Marcus Freeman put together an elite staff
Harry Hiestand, Offensive Line coach
The coach that made Notre Dame O-Line U is back. He coached the likes of Zack Martin, Quenton Nelson, and Ronnie Stanley. The Irish O-Line with Hiestand should be back to its elite form and continue to develop the NFL’s best offensive line talent.
Al Washington, Defensive Line coach
The former Buckeye’s linebacker coach is the new defensive line coach for the Irish. This is a great get that has players and recruits buzzing about South Bend. He has experience coaching the defensive line as he was the Boston College and Cincinnati defensive line coach.
He coached the likes of Harold Landry, Pete Werner, and Malik Harrison. He should develop players like Rylie Mills, Tyson Ford, and Gabriel Rubio into future NFL draft picks.
Chansi Stuckey, Wide Receiver Coach
Stuckey has made a great impression so far being a part of the Irish coaching staff. Already visiting big-time 2023 wide receiver targets like Carnell Tate. He was a wide receiver in the NFL playing for the Jets, Browns, and Cardinals.
That NFL experience he has will be a pitch he uses to land recruits in South Bend. The players know he has been where they want to be, which means he has a realistic chance to help them get there.
Brian Mason, Special Teams Coach
Brian Mason is a home run hire for the Irish. The former Cincinnati special teams coordinator has been busy since he accepted the Notre Dame job. Already getting two transfer players and a preferred walk-on kicker. It is safe to say it is going to be a battle to start for the Irish special teams this season.
These are all great hires across the board. Each making an impact already for the Irish. The players, recruits, and fans are excited about the direction this program is going. Marcus Freeman is doing great things Irish fan. Notre Dame Football is in great hands.
