The Notre Dame football team still has a void at defensive coordinator, and here are some candidates Marcus Freeman should target.

As the calendar turns to February, the Notre Dame football program remains without a defensive coordinator. Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock almost accepted the position but turned away at the last moment.

Numerous candidates circle through the rumor daily. These names include Cincinnati Bengals linebacker coach Al Golden, Minnesota defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, Boston College defensive coordinator Tem Lukabu, and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive backs coach Chris Ash.

Head Coach Marcus Freeman desires to stay involved with the defense. This probably complicates the hiring process. Any high-quality candidate wants to run their own defense. On the flip side, Notre Dame’s defensive talent and recent success likely attract highly qualified coaches.
