Notre Dame football: Most exciting 21 moments from the 2021 season

No. 6: Tyler Buchner hits Chris Tyree for 55-yards for his first collegiate TD pass

One of the key recruits in the Notre Dame 2021 class was quarterback Tyler Buchner, an incredibly talented signal-caller from the state of California. After not playing in the season opener against Florida State, we got to see our first glimpse of Tyler Buchner in Week 2 against Toledo, and he did not disappoint.

With the Irish clinging to a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, Buchner came in and fired a beautiful shot down the left sideline to Chris Tyree, and the rest was history, as Tyree ran 55 yards for the score. The touchdown was the first of Buchner’s career through the air, and it proved crucial, as Toledo came back to a lead late in the fourth, only to lose on a late Jack Coan to Michael Mayer touchdown.

It was an outstanding true freshman season for Buchner, who displayed the ability to hurt teams with his arm and his legs. He is going to be expected to be the starter this Fall, and if his first season is any indication, he could be the answer at the position group for years to come.
