No. 17: Lenzy keeps the Irish in it against Cincinnati

The biggest game of the early season came in Week 5, as the 4-0 Notre Dame football team took on the 3-0 Cincinnati Bearcats. Both teams were ranked in the top-10 at the time, and for the Irish, this was really the last huge hurdle in a regular season that did not feature many ranked teams.

Notre Dame was fresh off a dominating victory against Wisconsin, and if they could beat Cincinnati, they could be in a position to run the table, something they ended up doing. However, early on it was clear this would be a tough one for Notre Dame, as they were down 17-0 at the half, and the offense was struggling to run it or pass.

Then, in the third quarter, the Irish began to make a comeback, as Kyren Williams finally got them on the board with a three-yard touchdown run. In the fourth, Drew Pyne was attempting to come in and play the hero, hitting Braden Lenzy on a deep pass down the sidelines to keep the Irish alive and send Notre Dame Stadium into a frenzy.

Unfortunately, the Irish could stop Desmond Ridder after closing the gap to four-points, losing what would be their only game of the regular season.
