We know the Notre Dame football team has an elite TE1 in Michael Mayer, the best in the country, but who will be TE2 in 2022?

Unless you live under a rock, you know that Notre Dame football has the elite tight end in all of college football in Michael Mayer. A potential top-5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Mayer can do it all from his tight end position and is someone who can score at any time, carrying on the legacy of the great Notre Dame tight ends before him.

Going into the 2022 season, the thought was Mayer would be the TE1 for the Irish, backed up by George Takacs, a dynamic tight end in his own right, and someone who would likely start for another program. However, Takacs announced that he would be entering the transfer portal, so now all eyes are on who will step up behind Mayer in 2022.

New TE coach Gerad Parker has a lot of talent to work with, as Notre Dame football is a destination for tight ends. There are veteran guys, as well as players who got their first taste of college ball in 2021, as well as some interesting freshmen coming in.

Overall, it is a solid room, but who will step up and earn the TE2 spot behind Mayer this spring and summer?
