Notre Dame football: Who will be the TE2 in 2022?

Kevin Bauman

Michael Mayer was the Notre Dame football team’s prized recruit in the 2020 cycle, coming to the program as a five-star talent, and the No. 2-rated tight end in the country per 247Sports.com. Also that year, the Irish brought in the No. 6-rated tight end in the country in Kevin Bauman, a 6-foot-5 playmaker from Red Bank, New Jersey.

Going into the 2021 season, Bauman was supposed to step in and be a real asset behind Mayer, as both Brock Wright and Tommy Tremble opted to enter the 2021 NFL Draft. After a tremendous summer, one that had fans drooling at this duo at the tight end position, Bauman was injured in the opening game against Florida State, ending his season.

The career of Bauman at Notre Dame has been marred with injuries so far, but he has a real chance to put together another solid offseason and earn the No. 2 tight end spot behind Mayer. With his blend of size and speed, Bauman could be headed to the NFL after next season as well, but for now, the goal has to be to stay healthy and help this Irish team in 2022.
