Expected Depth Chart

Going into next season, I believe that the two juniors are going to make their marks, as the offense will rely heavily on Mayer, and Bauman is going to be a solid No. 2. He could make a jump to the NFL as Tommy Tremble did after backing up Mayer during the 2020 college football season, as he has the intangibles teams look for in the position group.

This is a deep group of athletes, and based on his first few seasons as the offensive coordinator, it is clear that Tommy Rees likes to work the tight ends in a lot. They continue to stack talent in each recruiting class, and that depth will be on display if injuries arise during the 2022 campaign.

When all is said and done, this is how I see the depth chart shaking out in camp.

  1. Mayer
  2. Bauman
  3. Berrong
  4. Evans
  5. Staes
  6. Raridon

This is a loaded position group, and there is talent on the way in 2023, as the Irish have an early commitment from Cooper Flanagan, a four-star recruit in his own right. This is the last year on campus for Mayer, who has little to prove at the collegiate level, so this group behind him needs to gain experience, and show they deserve to take over for him in 2023 and beyond.
