The Notre Dame basketball team has a special talent in Blake Wesley, who is starting to be listed as a potential 2022 NBA first-round draft pick.

The 2021-22 Notre Dame basketball team has been on a roll since the Kentucky game, which was the first start for true freshman Blake Wesley. A turning point in the season, Wesley hit the game-winning shot against the Wildcats, and since then, the Irish have lost only three times in a span of 16 games, an incredible run.

On February 11, 2022, this Notre Dame team is in first place in the ACC and is no longer a bubble team when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. Wesley is a huge reason why, as he has dominated at the collegiate level as a true freshman, and has the Irish as one of the scarier teams in the country right now.

For Wesley, he has not only helped the Irish to new heights, but he is solidifying himself as a potential first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He is averaging 14 points per game, has done a nice job distributing the ball as of late, and is no liability on the defensive end.

In a recent mock draft by Tankathon.com, the outlet has Wesley being selected in the first round, going to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies would be an excellent landing spot for Wesley, as he would be a top option within their offense right away as a rookie.

Memphis is one of the top teams in the NBA this season, and is currently in first place in the Southwest Division, thanks to strong play from elite point guard Ja Morant. A Wesley-Morant backcourt would make for some must-see television, as both players can score at will.

Of course, there is a lot of basketball left in Wesley’s true freshman season, and it will be interesting to see how far he can lead this team in terms of the ACC Tournament and March Madness. Hopefully, he comes back for a second season in 2022-23, because seeing he and J.J. Starling in the same lineup would be an unstoppable duo.
