2022 season and the incoming class

The 2022 season will be Freeman’s first full season at the helm of this storied program, and we will get a chance to see just how good this defense is right out of the gate. Instead of scheduling a cupcake for Week 1, the Irish will head to Columbus, Ohio to take on Freeman’s alma mater, playing the Buckeyes on the road to kick off their 2022 campaign.

While Drew White and Isaiah Pryor are trying to play at the next level next season, there are plenty of veterans returning to the group, including JD Bertrand, Jack Kiser, Marist Liufau, and Bo Bauer. In addition, Prince Kollie will be entering Year 2 after coming in as a highly-touted linebacker prospect in the 2021 class.

Of all the prospects coming in via the 2022 class, Jaylen Sneed and Joshua Burnham stand out in a big way, as they are both considered top-10 players at the linebacker spot per 247Sports.com. Niuafe Tuihalamaka and Nolan Ziegler are also four-star linebackers coming in this season, so if you look at the combination of young and veteran players, you have to like this group against any other team in the country.
