Notre Dame football: Kyle Hamilton to Houston a popular choice
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football program should have their first Day 1 pick in the last three drafts this April, and it could happen early on.
The Notre Dame football team has to replace an elite talent in Kyle Hamilton this season, as he left school early to pursue his NFL dreams. Hamilton made the right choice to leave school, that is a fact, as some believe he could be a top-5 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
While scouring the internet for mock drafts, one team came up as the likely landing spot for Hamilton, and that team is the Houston Texans. Lovie Smith is at the helm, and he is an elite defensive mind, so him passing on Hamilton at No. 3 overall really does not make sense.
Not only is Hamilton the best defensive back in this draft class, but he also made be the most NFL-ready player coming out, and the Texans certainly need all the help they can get moving forward.
Notre Dame football star a top-5 pick
Whether it is the Houston Texans at No. 3 overall, or possibly one of the New York teams to close out the top-5, the fact is, Hamilton is not falling past the No. 5 overall pick this April. He is too good a talent to fall, and based on his size, speed, and athleticism, he could be an All-Pro player as early as Year 1 at the next level.
Teams picking in the top-5 have needs all over the field, and not just one area, and with no clear No. 1 overall talent in this year’s draft class, the first round could get wild in late April. For Hamilton, all he has to do is put in a solid draft season, because based on what he did in South Bend, he is going to be one of the first names called.
The truth is, Houston is a team that needs to reload on both sides of the ball, and they cannot afford to pass up on a talent like Hamilton. Sure, safeties going No. 3 overall are rare, but Hamilton is a rare talent, and he would instantly improve a Texans secondary that was downright atrocious last season.
For Irish fans, the 2022 NFL Draft cannot come soon enough.
