The Notre Dame football team still has a need for depth at the WR spot, and there are some talented wideouts still available via the transfer portal.

When it comes to the 2022 Notre Dame football team, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered this offseason. The most glaring is which player will take the reigns as the starting quarterback, as both Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne should be the front-runners for the job.

No matter who is under center, there is going to be elite talent along the offensive line in front of them, making their life a whole lot easier. In the backfield, the talent is deep, as true sophomores Audric Estime and Logan Diggs, as well as junior Chris Tyree and true freshman Jadarian Price, are a solid group to take over for Kyren Williams.

With an elite tight end, the passing game should revolve around Michael Mayer, but there are real questions at wide receiver. Sure, the talent is there, but there is not much depth, and the Irish should look to the transfer portal to bring in a few more wideouts.

Notre Dame football could still attack the WR spot via the portal

There is still plenty of talent via the transfer portal out there, and the Irish could use another wideout or two heading into spring practices. There is even a four-star talent in Kaemen Marley, a former Tennessee wideout who is looking for a new home.

Notre Dame football attempted to load up this recruiting cycle at the position group but was able to land only Tobias Merriweather, who happened to be their top-rated prospect at the position. That left them with only six wideouts on the roster and based on the injury history of some of them, adding more players could prove crucial this spring.

Overall, the position group is not lacking in terms of talent, as they have players who can certainly stretch the field and some big bodies that will be red-zone threats. The problem is the number of wideouts on the roster, something that has to change as we inch closer to the Blue-Gold Spring Game.
