Notre Dame football: Previewing the 2022 quarterbacks entering spring practice
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football team has a lot of talent at the quarterback spot entering the 2022 season, and we preview the group here.
The Notre Dame football team will start their third starting quarterback in as many years this season, as Jack Coan took over for Ian Book in 2021. Book was a multi-year for the Irish, and while Coan played well, he came to the Irish as a graduate transfer, so he is out of eligibility.
Looking ahead, the Irish are in good hands at the quarterback position, as they have talent returning in 2022, and could be in line to bring in 2023 five-star Dante Moore next offseason. The competition for who starts in 2022 is going to be one to keep an eye on this offseason, as Tyler Buchner looks to keep both Drew Pyne and Steve Angeli at bay.
Buchner saw significant playing time behind Coan this past season, but it was Pyne who took over when Coan got injured against Wisconsin. These two are the front-runners to win the job, likely keeping Angeli on the sideline for at least his true freshman season.
Here, we dive into the position group heading into the spring practices.
