Notre Dame football: Previewing the 2022 quarterbacks entering spring practice

Who is Here?

There are plenty of familiar faces returning to the Irish this season, as Buchner and Pyne lead the quarterback room into spring practices. Buchner appeared in nearly every regular-season game last year and showed the ability to get the job done with his arm, and his legs, while also playing solid football under pressure.

With their season in the balance, Pyne also showed that Tommy Rees could rely on him, as he led the Irish to a victory inside Soldier Field against the Wisconsin Badgers. He was Ian Book’s backup during the 2020 season and has been with the program multiple years, so to think he is going to just allow Buchner to win the job would be a mistake.

Also returning is Ron Powlus III, the son of former Irish starter Ron Powlus Jr., who threw for over 7,600 yards and 52 touchdowns during his career in South Bend. Powlus is not close to being a legitimate contender to start for the Irish and is someone who could end up finishing out his career at another school.

Angeli enters the fray as a true freshman and is a four-star recruit who had major offers all over the country.
