Who is Gone?

Jack Coan came to the Notre Dame football program as a graduate transfer from Wisconsin and had to beat out Pyne and Buchner to land the starting job. From the start, it was clear that he had everything the Irish were looking for after Ian Book left for the NFL, and he played strong football down the stretch.

He got off to a bumpy start, mostly due to a bad offensive line in the early going, but in the end, he nearly led the Irish to a College Football Playoff berth. They fell short of that goal, but in the bowl game, he threw for over 500 yards and five touchdowns against a very tough Oklahoma State defense.

Coan is not the only quarterback leaving the program, as Brendon Clark left to try and win a starting job at Old Dominion. He is from Virginia, so he is headed home, and if he can finally heal from his knee injury, then he should have a legitimate start to finish his collegiate career on a high note.
