Notre Dame football: Previewing the 2022 quarterbacks entering spring practice

Potential Week 1 depth chart

The quarterback spot is the most important position in all of sports, and luckily for the Irish, they have the talent they need to replace Jack Coan this upcoming season. Buchner got a lot of run in Rees’s system last season, and the OC loves what he can do with his arm, and his legs, making him a playmaker from the position.

The problem is, usually when you do not have a clear No. 1 quarterback, that means you do not have a standout guy, but both of these players could end up dominating if they get the chance to start. I like Buchner to win the job this spring, but Pyne is going to get his opportunities along the way, especially if the true sophomore struggles.

  1. Tyler Buchner
  2. Drew Pyne
  3. Steve Angeli
  4. Ron Powlus III

The competition between Buchner and Pyne is going to be a good one this spring, and it will be interesting to see how far Angeli can come along in his first season on campus. He was a top recruit for the 2022 class and has the skillset to be a special player down the line, but in the end, I like the Buchner/Pyne battle to go down to the wire.
