Notre Dame basketball: Irish bracketology and where we stand
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame basketball team is in line for a possible ACC title, and here is where they stand in terms of the bracketology.
For the Notre Dame basketball team, this has been a special season, but despite them being one of the hottest teams in the country since the calendar turned to 2022, they are still unranked. In fact, they are no higher than a mid-seed in most of the latest bracketology, which we will dive into below.
Led by true freshman Blake Wesley, the Irish have dominated in ACC play, have been nearly unbeatable at home, and are winning close games late. Overall, they deserve to go into the ACC Tournament as a top-25 team, but at this point, that seems like a longshot.
Latest Notre Dame basketball seeds in Bracketology
Joe Lunardi (ESPN) Bracketology: 02/18/2022
Lunardi has the Irish as a No. 8 seed in his latest projection. In this scenario, Notre Dame basketball will take on the No. 22 team in the country in the Murray State Racers.
Murray State has not lost a game since December 22 of last year, and are led by K.J. Williams who leads the team in both scoring and rebounding.
Jerry Palm (CBS) Bracketology: 02/17/2022
In his latest bracketology for CBS Sports, Jerry Palm likes the Irish to be on the other end of an 8-9 matchup, as he has them as a No. 9 seed in the West Region. Their opponent in this bracket is the Boise State Broncos, who are 23-6 this season, and currently sit in first place in the Mountain West Conference.
Boise State is just on the outside of the top-25, and have a balanced starting lineup, with four players averaging double-figures in scoring this season.
Stan Becton (NCAA) Bracketology: 02/20/2022
Like Palm, Stan Becton has the Irish as a No. 9 seed, though he has them placed in the East Region. Their matchup in this bracket is the Seton Hall Pirates, who are in sixth place in the Big East and have won their last three games.
The Pirates beat No. 25 Xavier their last time out, as star guard Jared Rhoden racked up 30 points in a 16-point blowout.
The Irish have two conference games remaining — along with the ACC Tournament — a tournament that they have already clinched a top-4 seed in. They still have a chance to bring him the ACC’s regular-season title, but they will need Duke to falter down the stretch to do so.
