Notre Dame football: Offensive two-deep projection entering Spring Practice

Offensive Line

  • LT- Joe Alt, Tosh Baker
  • LG- Andrew Kristofic, Zeke Correll
  • C- Andrew Patterson, Pat Coogan
  • RG- Josh Lugg, Rocco Spindler
  • RT- Blake Fisher, Michael Carmody

The Notre Dame football team has a unit up front along the offensive line that should be one of the elites in football this season. With offensive line coach Harry Hiestand returning to the fold and inheriting a veteran group loaded with starters from 2021, the Irish should be able to dominate in the trenches in 2022.

Jarrett Patterson will miss the spring after tearing his pectoral muscle, but there is no doubt that he will be the guy at center when the team kicks off their 2022 campaign against Ohio State. He is one of the best centers in college football and was a potential Day 2 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft before deciding to return to South Bend for one more season.

The offensive tackle spot is loaded, as Blake Fisher and Joe Alt are both true sophomores who have first-round potential, and Andrew Kristofic and Josh Lugg should hold down the offensive guard spots. There is also a lot of talent behind this group, including true sophomore Rocco Spindler, who I believe will make a serious push for a starting job this offseason.

Overall, there are still some significant questions to be answered leading into the summer months, and we will get a good look at how the depth chart shapes up as we inch towards the Blue-Gold Game. Patterson being out won’t hurt too much, as he is a proven player, and it allows younger players to step in and maybe the answer in 2023.
