The Notre Dame basketball team kicks off their MBB ACC Tournament slate tonight, taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies inside Barclay’s Center.

It has come time for this Notre Dame basketball team to prove that the 2021-22 college basketball season was no fluke. After starting with a 3-4 record, the Irish began dominating in ACC play, losing only five games the rest of the season en route to a 22-9 overall record.

The Irish began their strong play once true freshman Blake Wesley was added to the starting lineup against Kentucky, a game that saw Wesley score the game-winning shot. From there, Wesley became one of the best freshmen in the country, earning second-team All-ACC honors, while also being named to the ACC’s All-Rookie team.

Wesley, however, is not the only option for this Irish team, as they are a veteran group that is also deep. They have numerous players who can go off on any night, and it feels like this group has been building up to this moment.

For the Irish, a win here pushes them into the semifinal, and one game away from a berth in the ACC Championship.

Notre Dame basketball vs VT Odds: Line, Spread, Over/Under

Notre Dame basketball vs VT Prediction Tonight

It took overtime, but the Virginia Tech Hokies were able to punch their ticket to this quarterfinal matchup by beating the Clemson Tigers. Virginia Tech won the game on a three-pointer from Darius Maddox at the buzzer, hanging on to victory that seemed well in hand at halftime before Clemson made a tremendous second-half run.

Virginia Tech is led by Keve Aluma, a 6-foot-9 forward who can hurt you in so many ways. Aluma was named All-ACC this past season, and he showed up in a big way against Clemson, scoring 19 points and grabbing ten boards. Paul Atkinson Jr. will have his hands full against Aluma tonight, but he is another player who is playing his best basketball heading into this matchup.

Notre Dame and Virginia Tech met up only one time this season, a road loss for the Irish back in January. The Hokies will likely have to win the ACC Tournament to make it to March Madness, while the Irish are a lock to be dancing even if they do not take home the championship.

In the end, I like the Irish.

My prediction: Notre Dame 71, Virginia Tech 68
