Notre Dame football: 2022 offensive position battles to watch this spring

RB: Logan Diggs vs. the Field

For the last two seasons, Kyren Williams has run all over defenses as the feature back for this Notre Dame football team, but he has decided to leave school early for the NFL. For the Irish, replacing him will be a tall order, as he rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons, one of only five Notre Dame running backs to do so.

During the 2021 campaign, Williams was the clear RB1, getting the majority of carries, but he did have help. One player who helped in a big way was true freshman Logan Diggs, who showed the ability to make plays on the ground, and through the air, becoming the No. 2 option in the run game for Notre Dame.

In 2022, he goes into the spring as the RB1, but he is going to have a lot of competition in terms of sharing the wealth or even winning the starting job. Another true sophomore, Audric Estime has the size and speed to dominate at the collegiate level, and there is always the big-play potential in Chris Tyree.

Diggs will have to stave off a solid group to be the starter against Ohio State.
