Notre Dame football: 2022 offensive position battles to watch this spring

WR: Deion Colzie vs. Jayden Thomas

The Irish brought in a solid group of wide receivers in their 2021 recruiting class, but it was Lorenzo Styles Jr. who came in and made an impact as a true freshman. In fact, Styles Jr. could be the best overall wideout on this roster and will have a chance to start for the Irish in Year 2 after breaking out during the Fiesta Bowl.

Two other true sophomores in Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie will be battling it out for their place on the depth chart, as some veterans return. Avery Davis and Braden Lenzy are both back, as is Joe Wilkins Jr., so both Thomas and Colzie will need a strong spring to cement their place in the rotation.

Davis is going to miss the spring due to injury, so that opens the door for Colzie and Thomas to get a lot of work in. Both players came into the program as four-star recruits, and based on 247Sports.com, Colzie was actually a higher-rated prospect than Styles.

There is not a ton of depth in terms of this position group when it comes to bodies, but they have a ton of talent here, and Thomas and Colzie will have a chance to make an impact in Year 2.
