Where the 2023 class stands so far

So far so good for the Marcus Freeman era. 2023 will represent his first full class as the Notre Dame head coach, which means it’s the first-class that he can properly be judged on. So far, 247 Sports has the class ranked first in all of college football with an average rating of 0.9477.

Meanwhile, On3 has Notre Dame as the second-ranked team with an average rating of 93.50. Recently, Notre Dame also hosted Dante Moore, a five-star quarterback from Detroit who is projected to go in the first round. The Irish are now seen as the favorite to land Moore over schools like LSU and Michigan.

Now, each recruiting service has different standards and a different way of doing things. So, it’s important to put things into perspective. Starting with the average rating. This is a rating that averages out the rating of each player who is committed to a team in a particular recruiting class. For reference, 247 Sports rates Texas A&M’s 2022 class at a 0.9477 class rating.

That class was widely regarded as one of the best in the modern era, with seven five-star recruits. Notre Dame’s 2022 class was a 0.9174, which was the highest class ranking at Notre Dame since 2013, the year of Notre Dame’s trip to the BCS National Championship, which produced a 0.9230 average class rating.

This current class is significantly ahead of any class from the Brian Kelly era.
