The Notre Dame football program could get a major boost at the wideout position this weekend, as Braylon James is announcing his college choice.

The Notre Dame football team is having real issues with the wide receiver room right now, as they just lost Joe Wilkins for the spring due to foot surgery. With Wilkins gone, and Avery Davis already recovering from tearing his ACL last November, there are only a handful of healthy bodies within the program right now.

Eventually, Wilkins will return, as will Davis, and true freshman Tobias Merriweather will join the program during the summer after finishing up high school. That will give them around eight wide receivers going into the Ohio State game, a small number by any comparison.

While the amount of players is small, the amount of talent is not, as the Irish have a few guys who can take the lid off the defense. The problem is depth, and if they are ravaged by injury during the regular season, they are going to have to possibly move players from other positions to figure it out.

Notre Dame football WR group could get a major influx of talent

The Irish are in the market for a number of prized 2023 recruits at the wide receiver position, and one of those recruits is Braylon James. A four-star talent out of Texas, James has the size and speed that could make him a matchup nightmare at the next level, and many believe he is leaning towards Notre Dame.

James is expected to announce his commitment on Saturday, and he would be an unbelievable get for this program. There are a number of players out of eligibility after this season at the position group, but talent remains, including a great group of true sophomores for the 2022 campaign.

If the Irish get the commitment from James, and possible Carnell Tate down the road, that would significantly improve this WR room going forward.
