Mayer and Company

The big question mark with this Irish offense is at the wide receiver spot, as the team will only have a handful of scholarship guys when the season kicks off. However, while they are light in numbers, if they can stay healthy, there is more than enough talent, and the Irish also have the best tight end in the country in Michael Mayer.

Some recent mock drafts have Mayer as a top-10 pick in next year’s draft, so this is most definitely his last go-around with the Irish. Having a tight end like Mayer is the ultimate security blanket for a young quarterback entering a starting role for the first time, and you can be sure Buchner is going to go to him early and often every week.

Buchner is also roommates with Lorenzo Styles Jr., who burst onto the scene during the Fiesta Bowl, capping off a strong true freshman season. With a solid collection of running backs behind him as well, Buchner will have no shortage of weapons in 2022, which could lead to a dominating season for No. 12.
