The Notre Dame basketball team will be losing Prentiss Hubb to the professional ranks and he leaves behind quite a legacy.

For the Notre Dame basketball team, the 2021-22 season was a strong one, as they made it back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in years. The Irish were led by some incredible veteran players, and a legitimate star true freshman in Blake Wesley, making the First Four and then upsetting Alabama in the Round of 64.

Throughout the season, the Irish saw many different players step up, including Prentiss Hubb, their long-time point guard. Hubb enjoyed a terrific four-year starting career with the Irish, appearing in nearly 130 games while making 118 starts for head coach Mike Brey.

During that time, Hubb experienced some lows but was able to cap off his career with a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Despite having eligibility due to the COVID-19 rules, Hubb has decided not to return to the Irish, leaving behind a legacy of leadership.

Notre Dame basketball looks to replace Hubb in 2022-23

Speaking on his radio show, Brey stated that Hubb would not be back in 2022-23, as he attempts to make the jump to the professional ranks. At this time, Hubb is not considered a legitimate NBA prospect, but he could get a look in the summer league, or go overseas and play in the professional leagues across the pond.

While that is a tremendous opportunity for Hubb, it does leave the Irish without their starting point guard in a season where they are already losing Wesley to the NBA. During the show, Brey does say it is likely Cormac Ryan returns, as well as Dane Goodwin.

Goodwin had an outstanding 2021-22 season and will be counted on even more with Hubb gone.

Hubb was never a player who was going to fill the stat sheet, but he was a kid who came to play every night and was counted on by Brey in more than a few big moments during his career. Hopefully, his leadership qualities, as well as his ability to orchestrate an offense, will lead to him getting a shot at the next level, but for his four years, he was a special player for the Irish.
