Notre Dame football: Big offensive questions entering 2022 Blue-Gold Game

Who emerges as QB1?

In 2020, Ian Book was the starting quarterback for the Notre Dame football team, finishing his collegiate career with more wins than any other signal-caller in Irish history. In 2021, Jack Coan took over, coming to campus as a graduate transfer and becoming the unquestioned leader of this offense.

In 2022, it remains to be seen who will be the man under center when the Irish kick off their season against Ohio State in September. As of now, it is a two-man race, as Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne are battling it out for the starting job, and the Blue-Gold Game will give both players a chance to start moving ahead on the depth chart.

Pyne and Buchner will each quarterback one of the teams, and we should see a whole lot of them that afternoon. Both players have their separate skill sets, but both showed last season that they have the talent to move this offense, so it will be interesting to see what Tommy Rees decides to do at this most important position.
