Notre Dame football: Big offensive questions entering 2022 Blue-Gold Game

Who steps up at WR?

During the 2022 recruiting cycle, the Notre Dame football team was supposed to have three wide receivers join the fray, as Tobias Merriweather, C.J. Williams, and Amorion Walker were all going to be Irish. Well, when all was said and done, only Merriweather committed to South Bend, and in the Blue-Gold Game, we won’t even see him, as he is still finishing up high school.

Due to injuries to Avery Davis and Joe Wilkins Jr., the Irish are very thin at the wide receiver position this spring and have even tried to convert Xavier Watts to fill that void. In the Blue-Gold Game, we are going to have to see someone step up and begin to make their way up the depth chart, especially some of these true sophomores from the 2021 recruiting class.

We already saw last season what Lorenzo Styles Jr. can do, as he dominated in the Fiesta Bowl, and he is going to be one of the starting wideouts in Year 2. Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie will get their chance to prove that they belong as well this spring, and hopefully, they can step up and provide the kind of depth this team is lacking heading into next season.
