The Notre Dame football team welcomed in Coach Ed Orgeron to practice this past week, and the national title-winning coach said the Irish could do the same.

When it comes to the 2022 Notre Dame football team, it is easy to take a look at some of the things that could make this team stand out. They have an elite defense, led by an elite defensive mind at the head coach position, possessing veterans on all three levels.

The offensive line is back completely, including two bookend offensive tackles that are only going to get better in Year 2. Sure, the quarterback spot is up in the air right now, but looking at all the weapons on this offense, including tight end Michael Mayer, you have to think it will be explosive in 2022.

When you combine the two, you have the makings of what could be a championship team in South Bend. The Irish came in at No. 5 in the initial ESPN FPI rankings, and sixth in terms of chances to win it all, great praise going into a season where they are losing a potential top-5 pick, their quarterback, and star running back.

A lot of that has to do with Marcus Freeman, their new head coach who could end up bringing a championship to South Bend. One former title-winning coach thinks that will be the case.

Coach O feels Notre Dame football could be ready to win a title

Freeman and the Irish recently welcomed former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron to practice, and he was blown away by the first-year head coach. In fact, Coach O feels the Irish the Irish could be ready to take the program to the next level.

According to a video sent to ESPN, this is what Coach O had to say about Freeman and his Irish.

"“I don’t know when it’s going to happen,” he said, “but with this staff, and this team, you’re going to win it all.”"

Remember, Coach O did not just win a national title, he had one of the more dominating years in the history of SEC football.

The truth is, this team has the chance to be special, and if Freeman can bring a title to South Bend, it would surpass anything Brian Kelly did with the program. The vibe is different around this program as we head closer to the Blue-Gold Game, and with Freeman at the helm, it seems anything is possible.
