Notre Dame football: Kyle Hamilton the right choice at No. 2 for Detroit
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame football program should see star safety Kyle Hamilton go early in the 2022 NFL Draft, possibly as high as No. 2 overall.
The 2022 NFL Draft will kick off from Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday night, and one star for the Notre Dame football team is sure to hear his name called. After a few drafts without a Notre Dame football player selected, Kyle Hamilton should break that drought early, as he is projected to be a top-10 pick.
However, him being a top-3 pick is not out of the cards, as we have seen many drafts that have him going to the Detroit Lions at No. 2 overall. That would be a great fit for him and would enable him to be a star for the Lions in Year 1.
Notre Dame football: Lions website lays out why Hamilton is the choice at No. 2
In a wonderful piece by Deni Martin over at SideLionReport.com, the Detroit Lions fansite on the FanSided Network, he laid out three reasons why Hamilton should be the pick at No. 2 overall. Martin goes into three big things, including how he is the playmaker this defense is lacking, he could be trade bait for Deebo Samuel, as well as in a trade for D.K. Metcalf.
While we believe that Hamilton would be the playmaker the Lions are lacking on defense, drafting someone No. 2 overall just to trade them for a wide receiver does not make much sense. Hamilton has the overall talent to be an All-Pro player in Year 1, while the franchise is nowhere close to being ready to challenge for a title.
They should be focused on bringing in young players to build up this roster, not veterans who will waste their prime as the franchise figures things out.
In reality, pound for pound, I believe that Hamilton is the best player in this draft class, and should be a top-5 pick for sure. We have seen some mock drafts where he falls, even outside of the top-10, but when all is said and done, fans of the Notre Dame football program will not have to wait long to hear his name called.
After Hamilton, it could be a long couple of days for the program.
