The Notre Dame football team ended their first-round drought on Thursday night, but Kyle Hamilton slipping shows how unpredictable the NFL Draft is.

Going into the 2022 NFL Draft, the word surrounding Notre Dame football star Kyle Hamilton was that he would be at least a top-10 pick. In fact, some had him going all the way up at No. 2 to the Detroit Lions, but that was certainly not the case on Thursday night.

In fact, it was not until pick No. 14 overall, a pick that belonged to the Baltimore Ravens, that Hamilton finally heard his name called. This is a kid that is seen as a generational talent by many NFL scouts, so the fact that he was still available in the middle of the first round makes him a steal for Baltimore.

However, the fact that Hamilton fell to No. 14 overall showed just how unpredictable the NFL Draft can be. Here is a player who will step in and start right away for a playoff contender, yet 13 times Roger Goodell went up to the podium, and 13 times he did not say Hamilton’s name.

Notre Dame football star ends in a perfect spot

Baltimore is going to be loaded in the secondary this season thanks to the addition of Hamilton, as well as Marcus Williams joining the Ravens via free agency. Baltimore already has elite cornerbacks in Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey, so good luck to those quarterbacks in the AFC North that have to face this team twice a season.

Overall, while Hamilton may be a bit disappointed that he was not a top-10 pick, he has to be happy with the franchise he landed with. Baltimore is a perennial playoff contender, and with a healthy Lamar Jackson back in 2022, Hamilton could go from playing in the Fiesta Bowl to the Super Bowl in one calendar year.
