Notre Dame football: Reasons Jack Coan will be QB2 in Indy in 2022

Overall talent

Coan is not only an experienced signal-caller who has had success at the collegiate level, but he is a quarterback who has the overall talent to be a player in the NFL. He has tremendous arm strength and accuracy, as well as the confidence to stand in the pocket and deliver the ball downfield, even when under pressure.

Coan is never going to run away from a defender in a foot race, but he is good with his feet and moves well in the pocket. He is cut from the same mold as Ryan, as someone who may not be fleet of foot, but can get the ball into the hands of his receivers no matter the situation, something that is going to benefit him at the next level.

The truth is, this is a perfect spot for Coan as he starts his NFL career, and as we saw with Ian Book last year, chances could be on the horizon in terms of starting. Ryan is not a young player and has dealt with some injury issues in the past, so if Coan can earn the QB2 job this spring and summer, do not be surprised if he makes his NFL debut as a starter as a rookie.
