Notre Dame football: Braylon James explains why he chose the Irish

The Notre Dame football program got a huge commitment from wide receiver Braylon James, and he made it known why he chose the Irish.
The 2022 Notre Dame football team won’t have a ton of depth at the wide receiver position, this after only one recruit ended up committing this past offseason. That recruit, Tobias Merriweather, has yet to step foot on campus, so when practices ramp up this summer, he could be significantly behind the eight ball.
While the Irish do not have a ton of numbers in terms of the position group, that does not mean that they are lacking talent. They have star power coming back in players like Braden Lenzy, Avery Davis, and Lorenzo Styles Jr., while also having some younger guys who should step up for them in 2022.
In 2023, that could all change, as the team has already gotten a commitment from Braylon James, a four-star wideout from Texas. James was a monster get for the Irish, as he is rated the No. 12 player in the state of Texas, and his reason for coming to South Bend was clear.
In fact, James had this to say to the Irish Players Club:
"I wouldn’t be coming to Notre Dame if Marcus Freeman was not the head coach."
That is a ringing endorsement for Freeman, as he continues to show that he is the biggest reason the Irish have been dominating in recruiting this offseason. The 2023 class is the best in the country right now, and has some huge names still out there, so do not be surprised if the group brings a national title to South Bend.

Since taking over as head coach of the Irish, Freman has done a tremendous job attracting some of the biggest names in the country. He has brought in talent from coast to coast, and it is clear that he is resetting the bar when it comes to the quality of players the Irish are bringing in.
An incredible coach and recruiter, Freeman was a perfect hire for the University and has them on the doorstep of closing the gap in recruiting with the likes of Alabama and Georgia. That is huge for this program and should lead to new heights.
