The Notre Dame football team will battle it out against Ohio State in Week 1 of the college football season, and the game will be in primetime.

The Notre Dame football team does not have a cupcake scheduled for Week 1, much like many other powerhouse programs do. In fact, the Irish have their likely toughest task of the season coming up right out of the gate, as they travel to Ohio to take on Ohio State.

When looking at the preseason rankings, this is a top-5 matchup, as it is a battle between two programs that will be fighting for their College Football Playoff lives down the stretch. Both are loaded on both sides of the ball, both have first-round draft picks on their roster, and both are looking to make a statement right out of the gate.

We have discussed why Notre Dame football could win this game, and also know that this is going to be four quarters of elite football. The Irish could certainly win, and likely slide into place as a top-3 team and a CFP contender, and we will all get to see it under the bright lights of primetime football.

Notre Dame football opens up in prime time

On Tuesday, it was announced that the game would be played at 7:30 PM ET, and be broadcast nationally by ABC. Also, it will be the site of College Gameday, so all eyes of the college football landscape will be focused on Ohio Stadium for this one.

For the Irish, this is a great chance to change the narrative that this is a good program that wins a lot of games but cannot win the big one. No matchup on this schedule will feature the kind of talent that the Buckeyes have, as the Irish look to stop a potential Heisman-Trophy-winning quarterback in C.J. Stroud.

Marcus Freeman has done an outstanding job in recruiting since coming to the Irish, but now is the time to start stacking wins. The Irish were embarrassed a bit in the Fiesta Bowl, blowing a monster lead to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, so in this one, four quarters of tough football will be a must and could lead to victory No. 1.
