Notre Dame football: 3 offensive players who could surprise in 2022

No. 2: Kevin Bauman, TE

Going into the 2022 college football season, all eyes are going to be on tight end Michael Mayer, who could end up being the best player at his position in the country. If he can put together another strong season, he could be the highest-drafted Notre Dame football player since Quenton Nelson, who went No. 6 overall back in 2018.

Mayer is an incredible talent, but in his same recruiting class was Kevin Bauman, who would have been a starter for nearly every other program in the country if he was not behind Mayer. In 2022, Bauman figures to play a huge role in this Irish offense, and I believe he could stand out as someone who surprises fans in a big way.

He has everything you look for in a starting tight end, and when Mayer goes to the NFL, he should slide right into the starting spot in 2023. However, this season will not be a lost one for him, as he will make his presence felt, and become another security blanket for whoever the starting quarterback ends up being.
