The Notre Dame football team has a bunch of good running backs on the roster, but will any of them emerge as the true RB1 in 2022?

Over the past few seasons, the Notre Dame football program has had the luxury of Kyren Williams being their featured running back. A do-everything runner who could rush the football, catch it out of the backfield, and be an elite blocker, Williams decided it was time for the NFL and was a selection of the Los Angeles Rams during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Now, as he starts his NFL journey, the Irish will be looking to replace him, but is there anyone on this roster who can step into that role?

In 2021, we got to see the emergence of Logan Diggs behind Williams, and he gave us a few highlight-reel moments. We have also seen big-play ability from Chris Tyree, someone who can score any time the ball goes into his hands, but also someone who has not been counted on a ton through his first two seasons.

This year,

Notre Dame football will be well-balanced on offense

Looking at the talent on this offense, the group should be as well-balanced as any other offense in the country this season. The Irish have solid weapons on the outside, an elite tight end, and tremendous depth at running back, making them a problem for any defense they face in 2022.

When it comes to the running back spot, I believe they will use more of a committee this season, working in guys like Diggs, Tyree, and another exciting back, Audric Estime. That would give Tommy Rees three guys who can hurt you in different ways, making this a very tough running back room to gameplan for.

Notre Dame football still has to figure out who their starting QB will be in 2022, but whoever it is, will be a first-year starter who will need as much help as possible. While there may be no legit No. 1 back as there has been in years past, the Irish are loaded with depth at the position group, and multiple players should make big impacts in 2022.
