Notre Dame football: 5 early bold predictions for 2022

Michael Mayer has 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns

Last season, the Notre Dame football team was led through the air by tight end Michael Mayer, who established himself as the best at his position group in the country. Even though he was snubbed for the John Mackey Award, there is no doubt Mayer is the player to watch at the tight end spot next season and is fresh off a season that saw him haul in over 70 passes.

In 2022, with questions at wide receiver, and a new starting quarterback under center, you can expect Mayer to be even more of a security blanket. While Jack Coan was a brand new starter for Notre Dame football last season, he was an established player at Wisconsin, so either Tyler Buchner or Drew Pyne starting in 2022 is a different story.

Regardless, this is going to be an exciting last season in South Bend for Mayer, who is likely to leave for the NFL and is expected to be the top tight end selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. In terms of stats, a 100-catch season is not out of the realm of possibility, as is 1,000 yards, and ten more touchdowns to his resume.
