The Notre Dame football team should be elite on the defensive side of the ball, and Isaiah Foskey could be in for a very special 2022 season.

The 2022 college football season is a few months away, and soon, we will know what the starting defense is going to look like for this Notre Dame football team. The Irish have a very tall task ahead of them in Week 1, as they travel to Ohio to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes, a team that could have the best quarterback in football.

Many experts expect CJ Stroud to be the first quarterback taken in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he is a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. He returns a strong offensive line, his top wide receiver, and his best running back in 2022, so the Notre Dame football team has their hands full when it comes to this offense.

However, the Buckeyes’ offense also has their hands full when it comes to this Notre Dame football team’s defense, led by edge rusher Isaiah Foskey. A legitimate first-round prospect, Foskey has dominated the past few seasons and is on the doorstep of becoming the No. 1 sack master in program history.

In 2022, he is primed to lead this Irish defense, and it is certainly going to be a special one.

Notre Dame football to face some elite offenses in 2022

The Ohio State game is not the only tough matchup on the Irish schedule, as they also take on USC and Clemson, two teams that should be elite on the offensive side of the ball as well in 2022. They also play BYU, who returns a ton of talent to the roster from last season, including their starting quarterback, Jaren Hall.

That could be a tough trip out West for this Notre Dame football team, but when you have the talent they have on all three levels of their defense, they should not be afraid of anyone. New head coach Marcus Freeman is also a former defensive coordinator, and one of the best in the country, so you know he is going to have them ready to go at every turn.

We are going to know right out of the gate how good this Irish defense is going to be because if they can hold down the Buckeyes, it will put the rest of the country on notice. When it comes to Foskey, he has shown he can be an absolute game-changer coming off the edge, and a double-digit sack campaign or even a school single-season record in sacks could be on the horizon.
