Notre Dame football: What does Joe Otting bring to the Irish?
By Carlee North
The Notre Dame football program continues to stack talent within their 2023 recruiting class, this time landing Kansas OL, Joe Otting.
Notre Dame football has landed 2023 offensive lineman Joe Otting out of Kansas. The staff offered Otting back in May and since that day Otting has been extremely high on Notre Dame. He plans on taking his official visit on June 17th so for him to announce his commitment before that, you know he’s all in and ready to get up to South Bend and recruit.
The prestige and history of Notre Dame football and the offensive linemen the program has produced were just too much to pass on for Otting and every since he got the offer he knew that the Irish were the place to be.
At the moment Otting holds 11 offers from the likes of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas State, and others.
What does Otting bring to the Notre Dame football program?
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman will bring grit and power inside. He projects as someone on the interior, whether that ends up being guard or center, that’s something offensive line coach Harry Heistand will get figured out.
This kid also has a ton of athleticism, playing basketball as well. He definitely can add some weight to his frame as long as that doesn’t slow him down. With that, his ability to get to the second level is solid because he runs well and has good movement and bend to come off the ball.
He’s not the highest-ranked recruit in the room but if Harry Hiestand wants him, I think Notre Dame will be just fine. The need on the interior is bigger than tackle so I like this pickup for that purpose also.
With Otting making his commitment public the 2023 class now holds 14 pledges with six on offense and eight on the defensive side. Otting will be joining Sam Pendleton and Sullivan Absher in the offensive lineman room. It seems the staff is looking to round it out with 5 and that could be close to done sooner rather than later.
