The Notre Dame football team landed a five-star quarterback on Thursday and adding CJ Carr to the fold changes everything for the program.

On Thursday night, the Notre Dame football program got a major commitment for their 2024 recruiting class. Not only did they bring in a five-star quarterback in C.J. Carr, but they were able to steal a legacy recruit from one of their biggest rivals in Michigan.

For those who do not know, Carr is the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, who was seen donning a Notre Dame had after the announcement. That had to be a gut punch to the Wolverines, who could lose two Michigan-based five-star quarterbacks to the Irish this offseason.

By adding a talent like Carr, Marcus Freeman and his staff are changing the narrative when it comes to recruiting in South Bend. Sure, Notre Dame football can consistently bring in a top-10 recruiting class, but now, getting into the top-3, or even holding the best class in the country is a legitimate reality.

Looking at the rankings after the Carr signing, the Irish have the No. 1 recruiting class for the 2023 cycle according to 247Sports.com, and the No. 2 class for 2024, impressive work by this staff in the early going.

Notre Dame football lands a star in Carr

Landing Carr, who is ranked as the No. 20 player in the country for the 2024 class, could just be the start for what should be an exciting new group of Irish players. We already know the 2023 class is going to be a special one, as Freeman seemingly gets a commitment from a top player every week, but 2024 could even exceed that group.

Notre Dame football still has its eyes set on Dante Moore, a five-star quarterback from Detroit who they currently hold a Crystal Ball for. Moore is another Michigan-based signal-caller who could come in and start right away for Notre Dame, so keep an eye on what he does now that Carr has committed.

The truth is, things are changing positively when it comes to this Notre Dame football program, and Freeman is using the assets at his disposal to get incredible commitments every week. The days of a top-10 recruiting class are over, and it is clear that Freeman is ready to go toe-to-toe with Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson in terms of the recruiting battle.
