Notre Dame baseball: Why not the Irish winning the College World Series?
By Brad Weiss
The Notre Dame baseball team has been one of the best in the country all season long, so why not them when it comes to winning the 2022 CWS?
Throughout the 2022 college baseball season, the Notre Dame baseball team was one of the best units in the country. There were times when they had a legitimate case to be a No. 1 overall team, which made it shocking when they were not awarded a regional hosting tournament.
Instead, they had to go on the road to win their regional, and they did just that, punching their ticket to a Super Regional for the second straight season. From there, Link Jarrett and his team did not let the opportunity pass them up, beating an elite Tennessee team for a chance to make it to Omaha.
Now, they will take on the Texas Longhorns in the College World Series, and when it comes to the 2022 Notre Dame baseball team, they could certainly be the last team standing when all is said and done.
Notre Dame baseball has the arms to win it all
The party will start tonight for the Irish, as they play Texas starting at 7 pm ET from Omaha. For Notre Dame baseball, they will certainly lean on John Bertrand in the opener, as he has been fantastic all season long, posting an earned run average under 3.00.
At the dish, hero David Lamanna will be the catalyst, and he leads a lineup that not only can get hits in bunches, but has proven to be clutch all year for the Irish. Texas is one of the best teams in the country, but when you look at all the veteran talent Jarrett has, and their experience playing at a very high level, would it shock anyone if they were able to win it all.
It all starts tonight, and if Bertrand can hold Texas in check, and the Irish can somehow come away with a Game 1 victory, you should see the confidence continue to mount. This is a team playing with a ton of it right now, and that could lead them to an improbable run to the program’s first championship.
