The Notre Dame football team seemed to be in the running to land Carnell Tate, but in the end, the five-star wideout chose Ohio State.

The 2022 recruiting class for the Notre Dame football team was a solid one, but one particular position group was weak. The wide receiver class was supposed to have three new faces, including Tobias Merriweather, CJ Williams, and Amorion Walker, but only Merriweather committed to play for the Irish.

In 2023, the Irish are once again taking a swing at bolstering this position group, one that should have some depth issues on the field this Fall. They have already landed a four-star recruit in Braylon James, one of the best overall players in the State of Texas, and have their eyes set on a few more options.

One of those options was Carnell Tate, a five-star recruit from IMG Academy, but instead, he chose to attend Ohio State. Notre Dame football was long in the running for the talented wide receiver, as they were named in his top-5, but in the end, he will be heading to Columbus.

Notre Dame football putting together an elite 2023 class

Even without Tate, this 2023 recruiting class for the Irish is looking like a special group, as it currently mans the No. 1 spot in the country according to 247Sports.com. They have added a five-star edge rusher in Keon Keeley, and have at least three players considered the top-10 in their respective position groups in the country.

Missing on Tate is a tough one, as it is a premium position in terms of need for Notre Dame, but they should be able to rebound.

Notre Dame football will take on Ohio State in Week 1 of the 2022 college football season, and maybe Tate will be in attendance. For the Irish, that is an opportunity to show the young man what he is missing out on if they can pull off the victory.
