The Notre Dame football team has a lot of star power on their team in 2022, but No. 7 should give them more production than most.

For the past few seasons, the Notre Dame football program has gotten great production from Isaiah Foskey, one of the premier edge rushers in the country. After a very productive 2021 season, many felt Foskey would make the jump to the NFL, as he was seen as at least a Day 2 draft pick.

Instead, Foskey decided to go for another run with the Irish, so that blazing edge rusher with the No. 7 on his chest will be back in South Bend in 2022. That is great news for Marcus Freeman and this coaching staff, as he could end up being the all-time leading sack man in Notre Dame football history when all is said and done.

Looking at the 2022 roster as a whole, Foskey is one of the premier guys, especially on defense, but on offense, another No. 7 could steal the show. Recently, the Irish announced the jersey numbers for incoming freshmen, and any guys who are changing their number, and one such player was Audric Estime.

A player expected to break out in 2022, Estime is changing from No. 24 to No. 7, which means no matter what side of the ball the Irish are one, No. 7 is someone to keep an eye out for. Estime has the size and speed to be a touchdown machine for the Irish this upcoming season, this after a tremendous offseason.

Notre Dame football must lean on Estime in 2022

The expectation for the Irish in 2022 is that it will be a group of players that replace Kyren Williams, the team’s feature back the last two seasons. Williams posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, and was a draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams a few months back, so replacing him could prove tough for the Irish.

Logan Diggs played well as a true freshman last year, and Chris Tyree is a dynamic playmaker, but Estime is the Wild Card here.

With his size, Estime should be able to run through defenders, and all indications are that Tommy Rees plans to let him thrive in Year 2 on campus.
