The Notre Dame football team takes on a tough Ohio State defense in Week 1, and starting Tyler Buchner may give the Irish their best chance to win.

The Notre Dame football team has a huge decision to make this summer, as the battle rages on for who will be their starting quarterback in 2022. The real battle will come down to Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne, two signal-callers who had some special moments during the 2021 season.

Pyne came in and helped lead the Notre Dame football team to a win against Wisconsin when Jack Coan went down due to injury, and Buchner was the second option at the position all season long. His play with his arm and his legs could be the deciding factor on who gets the start against Ohio State.

To beat the Buckeyes, the Notre Dame football team will have to find a way to not only stop their explosive offense but match them if they do score. With his ability to get the job done in numerous ways, Buchner may be the perfect quarterback to beat Ohio State.

With him under center, Ohio State has to be cognisant of his arm, and his legs, and that is very hard to do, no matter the defense.

Notre Dame football could go with two QBs in Columbus

When all is said and done, the Irish could decide to go with both quarterbacks against Ohio State, as they both give the defense a different look. While that is an option, getting one quarterback ready against such a prolific team is paramount, especially when you are trying to establish position in what should be a tight College Football Playoff race in 2022.

Both Pyne and Buchner would likely start for numerous collegiate football programs, and having both of them on the roster is certainly a luxury for Marcus Freeman and his staff. However, based on his do-everything ability, Buchner could be the best option for the Irish to pull off what would be considered an upset.
