The Notre Dame football team should be one of the best in the country in 2022, and one young player is viewed as a potential breakout star this season.

When it comes to the 2022 Notre Dame football team, one area where they should dominate the competition is up front along the offensive line. The Irish have the entire starting offensive line returning from their bowl game against Oklahoma State, and with Harry Hiestand returning as offensive line coach after a hiatus with the program, the sky is the limit for this group.

They have to be considered a preseason favorite to win the Joe Moore Award.

One big key to the offensive line will be the young offensive tackles, two guys that have the size and strength to dominate the competition. With a very tough regular-season slate, Notre Dame football is going to have to dominate the trenches if they hope to succeed, and they certainly have the talent up front on the offensive side of the ball to do just that.

Notre Dame football OT named a breakout candidate

Recently, Anthony Treash from Pro Football Focus put together a list of 30 players primed to break out during the 2022 college football season. In that list, Treash named offensive tackle Blake Fisher, a player entering his redshirt sophomore season for the Irish.

Last offseason, Fisher earned the starting left tackle job as a true freshman, only to get hurt in Week 1 against the Florida State Seminoles. He would miss the rest of the campaign, but come back for the bowl game, where he moved to right tackle due to the emergence of another true freshman, Joe Alt, on the left side.

Alt was named a Freshman All-American.

One thing to keep an eye on this summer is whether or not Fisher earns the left tackle job back, or if they just decide to run it back with Alt on the left side, and Fisher on the right. Whatever the team decides to do, one thing is for sure, and that is the Irish have one of the better young tackle duos in the country.
