The Notre Dame football team takes on Ohio State in Week 1 of the 2022 college football season, and there will be plenty of elite individual matchups.

Week 1 of the 2022 college football season will bring likely the toughest matchup for the Notre Dame football team this year. In that matchup, the Irish will be taking on an Ohio State team that many feel could be the last team standing when all is said and done.

Ohio State has elite playmakers on both sides of the ball, including quarterback CJ Stroud, who is an early front-runner favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Stroud has his No. 1 option from last season, Jaxon Smith-Njigba back after a breakout campaign in 2021, so it will be interesting to see what the Irish do to contain him in this early-season matchup.

To do the damage he needs to, Stroud needs strong play from his offensive line, led by left tackle Paris Campbell. A potential first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Campbell is going to have to stave off a tough Irish pass rush, led by Isaiah Foskey, who could join him in the first round next year.

In fact, this is a matchup that could decide the outcome of the game, as well as boost the draft stock of both players.

Notre Dame football to face tough Ohio State Buckeyes team

Foskey had a breakout season of his own last year, racking up double-digits in sacks, and becoming a real menace coming off the edge. In fact, he has a chance to become the program’s all-time sacks leader with a repeat performance of his 2021 season, but this is going to be one of the tougher offensive lines he will face this year.

If Foskey can beat Campbell, he is going to be able to beat any other left tackle the Irish face in 2022.

There are plenty of things that could swing this game in either direction, but this is one matchup that I cannot wait to see. Foskey is the real deal, and is starting to get some national praise for his skill set and performance, so beating Campbell on a national stage could cement his place in the 2023 first round.
