Notre Dame football 2022 Fall camp position preview: Quarterback

Possible Depth Chart

The Notre Dame football team is only going to go as far as the quarterback position takes them, which is the case for any football team on any level. For the Irish, they have the talent to get big-time production from the position group, and it will be interesting to see how everything shakes out this summer going into the game against the Buckeyes.

Potential Week 1 depth chart vs. Ohio State

  1. Tyler Buchner
  2. Drew Pyne
  3. Steve Angeli
  4. Ron Powlus III

No change here from our pre-spring practice preview, as Buchner should roll into Fall Camp as the No. 1, with Pyne right on his heels. The interesting play here is Angeli, who was outstanding during the Blue-Gold Game and showed the kind of moxie that made him one of the best players in the state of New Jersey last year.

The truth is, Buchner is a legitimate weapon when he is healthy, and a full offseason in Rees’s system should have him even more ready for his opportunity in Year 2. Pyne is a strong-arm quarterback who can move the team down the field as well, but in the end, Buchner gets the start and is the best player for the Irish to take on Ohio State at this position.
