Notre Dame football: 3 players who must exceed expectations in 2022

Deion Colzie

It is no big secret that the Notre Dame football team could have serious depth issues at the wide receiver position this season. They were able to land only one of their three 2022 recruits at the position group and saw star Kevin Austin Jr. go to the NFL after a breakout season in 2021.

For now, Lorenzo Styles Jr. will be the lead guy for the wideout group, but he is surrounded by excellent veteran talent in the likes of Braden Lenzy and Avery Davis. Styles is also joined at the position group by another true sophomore in Deion Colzie, who could be the breakout star of the 2022 season at wide receiver.

Colzie was a huge recruit for this program last season and has looked outstanding during workouts this spring and summer. If he can exceed his expectations in 2022, that would give the Irish two very young star wideouts, allowing the veterans to do their thing, and true freshman Tobias Merriweather to ease into a role on this offense.
