The Notre Dame football team was supposed to be loaded at running back in 2022, but instead, injuries have caused real depth issues heading into Fall camp.

The 2022 Notre Dame football team was supposed to have a real strength at the running back position, even with their feature back leaving for the NFL this past offseason. The return of two true sophomores who got some work last season and a junior playmaker was supposed to be the backbone of this running game in 2022.

However, injuries have devastated the depth chart heading into camp, leaving the Irish with real question marks about the position group.

Who is Back

Originally, the Irish were supposed to have Logan Diggs, Audric Estime, and Chris Tyree back to battle it out for the No. 1 spot atop the depth chart, but Diggs tore his labrum in the Blue-Gold Game. That means Tyree and Estime will have all eyes on them during the Fall, and the hope is that not only can they improve, but stay healthy.

Health has been a real issue when it comes to this position group, but Tyree and Estime are both playmakers who have distinctly different running styles. Tyree is likely to get the nod due to his experience, but Estime is a guy who can hurt a defense in so many ways.
