Notre Dame football 2022 Fall camp position preview: Running Back

Changes for 2022

The biggest change when it comes to this roster at the running back position is the loss of Kyren Williams to the NFL. Williams rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons, and replacing that kind of production would be hard for any program.

Two huge recruits came in via the 2022 recruiting class, including Jadarian Price, who some had as the No. 5 overall running back in the country. Unfortunately, after a strong spring, Price ruptured his Achilles during spring workouts, and will be forced to miss the entire 2022 season.

New running backs coach Deland McCullough came through in the clutch by getting Gi’Bran Payne to leave his Indiana commitment and follow him to South Bend. Payne battled through injuries during his high school days, but is a tremendous playmaker, and was a four-star recruit coming out of LaSalle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
