Notre Dame football: Position groups that could surprise in 2022

Wide Receiver

When it comes to the Notre Dame football team on the offensive side of the ball, the biggest question mark will be the quarterback spot. That is going to be the biggest position battle that wages on this Fall, as Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne are the top two options to take over for Jack Coan.

At wide receiver, the loss of Kevin Austin Jr. to the NFL looms large, and while the Irish do not have huge numbers at the position group, talent is abundant. Veterans Avery Davis and Braden Lenzy return, but the biggest name is Lorenzo Styles Jr., who stood out as a true freshman in 2021, especially in the Fiesta Bowl.

While Styles Jr. is a talented true sophomore, he is not the only young and talented wideout on this roster. Jayden Thomas is moving his way into a starting role, and Tobias Merriweather has looked like the real deal since stepping on campus. Another name to keep an eye on is Deion Colzie, so if all of these guys can move in the right direction, this should be a deep and exciting group.
